Movers and Packers Prices:
There are some movers who will charge per box for packing as opposed to an hourly rate plus materials. I highly suggest choosing movers and packers who pay by hour as opposed to per box.Average Moving and Packing Rates per Box:
Dish Pack $40-48/box
1.5 Book Box $20-30/box
3.1 Medium Box $40-60/box
4.5 Linen Box $35-55/box
Wardrobe Box $50-70/box
The rates above are pretty typical for most movers and packers, however I have seen some van lines as much as 20% higher than these rates.
Average Moving and Packing Rates by the Hour:
$118/hour for two men and a truck + materials at approximately $8/box including paper/tape/bubble.
In average, your two men should be packing approximately 10-15 boxes/hour each. So, it will cost approximately $278/hour if you pay by hour vs. $600 for the same boxes packed. No Brainer!
Most military moves and pre-paid moves are charged for packing by the box. If you are a resident, I suggest you packing all of your linens/books, etc. and having the professional movers and packers pack the dishes, breakables, and things that can get damaged. FACT: Movers who pack are only liable for the items that they pack.

If you need a full service mover who will pack and move your items, you should understand some quick facts regarding the industry:
- Full service movers must be licensed and insured to move your things locally and long distance ( separate lic. no).
- Full service movers and packers are liable for $.60/lb/article. You should choose a mover that also offers full replacement value coverage
- Full service movers and packers liable for $.60 vs. Self Pack Operations liable for $.10
- Many movers who pack will pick up recycled packing materials when you are finished - email your mover after the move to see if they will
- Too many long distance movers and packers will sell/swap/unload/reload your shipment! Make sure you hire professional movers and packers that will not do this. The result of excessive swapping etc. can range from minor damage to missing items
- A word about moving company reviews - you really, really need to do your research here. Most moving company reviews are manipulated. There are very few sites that you can trust as a third party verified site. Many mover reviews you read will be directly from the movers website. Always read filtered reviews and customer lobby.
